Your Thoughts? U.S. embassy in Canada released a list of quotes from Canadian politicians that it claims indicate "plans to influence American politics." The U.S. embassy accused Canadian politicians of signalling plans to influence American politics, citing comments about Canada’s response to U.S. tariffs. Mark Carney and Doug Ford dispute the suggestion, saying their priority is protecting Canadian workers, businesses and the economy. Where should the line be drawn between legitimate trade pressure and election interference? #MarkCarney #Canada #Cdnpoli #CanadaPolitics #LatestNews

Your Thoughts? Danielle Smith has a message for UCP members still pursuing separation: the party’s future is within Canada. Following Monday’s referendum, Smith says those determined to turn the UCP into an independence movement should find another party. She says the focus must now be winning the next election. Is this the leadership needed to unite the party—or should there still be room for separatist views within the UCP? #Alberta #DanielleSmith #UCP #cdnpoli #CanadaPolitics

Your Thoughts? A major day for Alberta, and Canada. Albertans vote today, October 19, on whether to remain in Canada or pursue a second referendum on separation. More than 1.3 million people voted early or by mail. Today’s vote will not itself take Alberta out of Confederation. Will the result settle the separation debate, or will Alberta’s relationship with Ottawa remain unresolved? #Alberta #Canada #cdnpoli #CanadianUnity #DanielleSmith

Political rivals. A shared message: Alberta belongs in Canada. Mark Carney and Pierre Poilievre are making separate pro-unity appearances ahead of Alberta’s October 19 referendum. The ballot asks whether Alberta should remain in Canada or pursue a second referendum on separation, it does not itself authorize the province to leave. Will their unity message influence undecided voters? What should Ottawa and Alberta do to address their concerns? #MarkCarney #Alberta #Canada #PierrePoilievre #cdnpoli #CanadaPolitics

Your Thoughts? Should Canada take ownership of Stelco to protect steel jobs? NDP leaders Avi Lewis and Marit Stiles are calling for nationalization amid layoffs. Ottawa says employment commitments were breached; the company disputes that claim. Your Thoughts? Trump is repeating his claim that Canada will become America’s 51st state. Speaking at a Wednesday rally in Bullhead City, Arizona, he said Canada would “end up being the 51st state, because that’s the only way it works.” He also raised grievances about Canadian dairy tariffs and automotive manufacturing. His remarks do not change Canada’s sovereignty, but they raise another question about how Ottawa should handle its relationship with Washington. Should Canada push back publicly every time Trump says this—or focus on negotiations and reducing dependence on the U.S.? #Canada #cdnpoli #Trump #CanadaPolitics #CanadianSovereignty

Your Thoughts? The Liberals remain ahead, but what’s driving Canadians’ choices? Nanos tracking released October 13 puts federal voting intentions among decided voters at: Liberals: 48.8%, Conservatives: 29.5%. NDP: 11.1%, Bloc Québécois: 6.4%. Greens: 2.1% & People’s Party: 1.6% In the separate preferred Prime Minister question, Mark Carney stands at 60.7%, compared with Pierre Poilievre at 20.9%. Donald Trump and Canada–U.S. relations remain the leading national concern, followed by jobs and the economy, then inflation. What matters most to your political choice right now: leadership, affordability or Canada’s relationship with the United States? These are polling results, not an election forecast. Nanos uses four-week rolling telephone tracking; this release covers the period ending October 9, 2026. #MarkCarney #cdnpoli #PierrePoilievre #canada #CanadaPolitics

They fought each other for Alberta’s top job. Now, Jason Kenney and Rachel Notley are joining forces to support Alberta staying in Canada. The former UCP and NDP premiers are scheduled to speak at an Edmonton Chamber of Commerce event ahead of the October 19 provincial referendum. The most debated question asks whether Alberta should remain in Canada or pursue a second referendum on separation. The upcoming vote would not itself take Alberta out of Confederation. Would seeing these former political rivals stand together influence your view, or have you already decided? #Alberta #Canada #cdnpoli #CanadianUnity #CanadaPolitics

Prime Minister Mark Carney used Thanksgiving Monday to speak directly to Alberta voters, one week before a referendum on the province’s future in Canada. In a video message posted to social media, Carney said Canada faces “real threats to our economy, to our security, to our way of life.” “You can’t build big things on fault lines,” he said. He also appealed to Albertans’ role in the country’s history: “Generations of Albertans helped build this country. It’s yours, it’s ours, and it’s worth fighting for.” The message is one of Carney’s strongest appeals yet for Alberta to remain part of Canada. Do you think Carney’s message will sway Alberta voters? #MarkCarney #Alberta #Canada #cdnpoli #CanadaPolitics

Canada’s job market took another hit in September, with Statistics Canada reporting 68,000 fewer jobs, following a loss of 42,000 in August. The unemployment rate rose to 6.5%, the same level as in January. Analysts had expected the economy to add about 9,000 jobs. Most of the losses were in the public sector and in education, led by a drop of 35,000 jobs in that field. Quebec lost 49,000 jobs, while Alberta added 23,000. Young workers aged 15 to 24 lost 48,000 jobs. Some economists say it’s too early to blame tariffs. KPMG’s Daniel Hyun said it would be “premature to blame tariffs for the weakness.” Wages did rise 2.3% from a year ago, and the Bank of Canada makes its next rate decision on October 28. “Canada is not our enemy.” That’s the message from Michigan Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers, who is calling for an immediate end to the tariff war. In a campaign ad released October 7, Rogers takes a different position from his earlier support for tariffs. The ad doesn’t name Trump, but directly challenges the president’s trade approach toward Canada. Trump downplayed the disagreement, interpreting Rogers’ message as a call for Canada to make a deal. For Canadians, the key question is whether this campaign message leads to meaningful pressure to change U.S. trade policy. No tariff rollback was announced. Could pressure from U.S. voters help end the Canada–U.S. tariff war? #CanadaUS #Trade #Tariffs #Canada #USPolitics

Your Thoughts? In an interview with Radio-Canada, Immigration Minister Lena Metlege Diab was repeatedly asked about the 1985 Singh v. Minister of Employment and Immigration case, but Minister appears unaware of court ruling. This Singh decision ruled that asylum seekers are guaranteed the Charter right to fundamental justice and led to the creation of the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada. When told again that it was the Singh decision handed down by the Supreme Court of Canada in 1985, she said she would have to check with her team. There are many Singhs and many decisions," said Diab.Radio-Canada then specified that it was the decision that led to the creation of the Immigration and Refugee Board, to which she responded: "Ah, OK."With the Singh decision, the Supreme Court of Canada recognized, among other things, the right of asylum seekers to an oral hearing, according to several experts Radio-Canada spoke with. Your Thoughts? Did Canada Sell Stelco Without Enough Protection? Stelco was sold to U.S.-based Cleveland-Cliffs with federal approval. Now, 500 Hamilton steelworkers could lose their jobs. Industry Minister Mélanie Joly says the company had commitments to protect jobs when Ottawa approved the takeover, and she wants a compliance plan within five days. If the company does not respond, Ottawa says legal action could be considered. So here is the question: Did Canada protect workers properly when it approved the sale? Or are Canadian jobs once again at risk after a foreign takeover? Your thoughts? #cdnpoli #MarkCarney #CanadaPolitics #LatestNews

QUEBEC’S POLITICAL MAP HAS BEEN REDRAWN. The Parti Québécois is back in power, winning 59 seats and forming a minority government, a dramatic comeback from just three seats in the 2022 election. The result also marks a stunning reversal for the CAQ, which was reduced to zero seats after eight years in government. Now comes the bigger question, PQ leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon has spoken openly about another referendum on Quebec independence. But without a majority, the new government will also need to work with other parties to advance its agenda. In his victory speech, St-Pierre Plamondon promised to be the premier of all Quebecers and said he would be “direct and transparent” in his dealings with Prime Minister Mark Carney. What does this election really mean for Canada? Was this primarily a vote for change after eight years of CAQ government, or does it signal renewed momentum for Quebec sovereignty? Quebecers and Canadians: what’s your read on the result? Keep the discussion respectful. #QuebecElection #Quebec #PartiQuebecois #CanadianPolitics #cdnpoli
